What this llms.txt generator checks and how to act on it
This generator drafts an llms.txt file from a site URL: an H1 with the site name, a summary blockquote taken from the meta description, and sections of real URLs gathered from your sitemap and the page's internal links, grouped by type and labelled with their link text. Add a one-line description to each link and rewrite the summary by hand before publishing; those are the parts that matter most, and a stale or generic llms.txt teaches models the wrong facts.
llms.txt is a curated guide for language models, not a crawl-control file; allowing or blocking AI crawlers is done in robots.txt and at the CDN. Adoption by AI companies is uneven, so treat it as a low-cost complement to answer-first pages in static HTML rather than a lever on its own. Serve it at /llms.txt as UTF-8 plain text and review it quarterly.
How to use the llms.txt generator
- Enter your homepage URL.
- The generator reads your sitemap and the page's internal links and drafts an llms.txt grouped into sections.
- Rewrite the summary and add a one-line description to each link you keep.
- Publish the file at /llms.txt as UTF-8 plain text.
What it does not check
- Whether a given AI system reads llms.txt; adoption is uneven.
- Crawler access, which robots.txt and your CDN control.
