What this SEO competitor analysis checks and how to act on it
A free SEO competitor analysis compares your site with the sites that rank for the queries you want on four things: the page types they have that you lack, the queries they answer that you do not, how their winning pages are structured, and which technical signals they get right. This tool compares two URLs or domains on visible content, headings, structured data, and metadata so the structural gaps are obvious.
Choose competitors by who ranks for your queries rather than by who you consider a business rival: search twenty of your position 5 to 40 queries and record the domains that recur on page one. Three to five is the right number, including one site clearly larger than yours. Fetch each competitor sitemap or crawl a few hundred URLs, group by path pattern, and compare counts per page type before looking at any individual keyword; the biggest gaps are usually whole page types.
Read winning pages with JavaScript disabled to see what crawlers and AI engines actually receive: a direct answer near the top, tables with real numbers, FAQ sections, schema, and internal links. Then turn findings into a ranked build list scored by the impressions you already have for related queries, the competitor's position, and effort. Re-run quarterly or whenever a new domain starts appearing on page one for your queries.
How to use the SEO competitor analysis
- Enter your page URL on the first line.
- Add up to three competitor pages that rank for the same query, one per line.
- Compare the side-by-side table: words, H2 sections, schema types, citations, question headings, tables, dates, and authorship.
- Start with the signals where a competitor clearly leads, then review the terms they share that your page lacks.
What it does not check
- Traffic, keyword rankings, or backlinks: it has no search database and compares live on-page signals only.
- Which competitors to choose; use the domains that appear on page one for your queries.
- Content that only appears after JavaScript runs, or pages behind a login.
