What this title tag checker checks and how to act on it
A title tag checker fetches a page, extracts the title element, and reports its length in characters and approximate pixel width, whether it is likely to be truncated in results, whether it matches the H1 and page purpose, and whether it shows signs of duplication or keyword repetition that lead Google to rewrite it.
Google truncates displayed titles at roughly 580 to 600 pixels on desktop, about 55 to 65 characters, so the words that distinguish the page must come first and the brand can go last. Google replaces titles it judges too long, duplicated across pages, keyword-stuffed, or mismatched with the content or H1; the most reliable defence is a title that already matches the H1 and describes the page precisely. On programmatic sites, uniqueness at scale matters more than any single title.
Title changes show up as click-through rate changes more than position changes. Compare CTR in Search Console for four weeks before and after a change at a stable position, and change titles and descriptions one at a time so the effect is attributable. Audit site-wide by crawling or exporting titles and testing for pixel length, duplication, and H1 agreement.
How to use the title tag checker
- Enter a public page URL.
- The checker reads the title tag and measures it in characters and approximate pixel width.
- Review the findings: a very short title, terms missing from the headings, repeated words, all caps, or a brand suffix crowding out the topic.
- Put the words that distinguish the page first and preview the truncated result.
What it does not check
- Whether Google will rewrite the title in results.
- Duplicate titles across your site; it checks one page at a time.
